Reserved exclusively for lodging guests, Heckโs Tavern is a favorite gathering place for modern Ranch fare, light bites, and craft beer in a relaxed mountain setting. At its heart stands an impressive floor-to-ceiling fireplace built with natural materials gathered from the Ranch and surrounding area.
Start the morning with a hearty breakfast and panoramic views of the Continental Divide. Refuel after a day of Ranch activities with lunchtime favorites such as our Famous Wagyu Burger or Mushroom Pot Pie. Come nightfall, enjoy dishes including Cedar PlankโRoasted Steelhead Trout and Wagyu Chili. After dinner, gather around the outdoor fire pit for complimentary nightly sโmores.
The story of Heckโs extends well beyond its menu. Its design was inspired by Oregonโs historic Timberline Lodge, which the owners visited in 1999 as they were preparing to purchase the Ranch. Captivated by the lodgeโs dramatic hexagonal design, natural beauty, and grand craftsmanship, they sought to bring that same sense of character and scale to the Lodge at Devilโs Thumb Ranch.
The massive posts and beams were hewn from standing-dead Douglas fir from Vancouver Islandโsome more than 800 years oldโwhile the siding is larch and the geothermally heated floor is made from reclaimed spruce. Stone from a nearby rockslide forms the towering fireplace and was also used in the original 1937 Ranch homestead, now Ranch House Restaurant & Saloon. Together, these thoughtfully chosen materials connect the Lodge to its natural surroundingsโdetails we hope youโll appreciate as much as the food itself.
