Approximate driving time: 1 hour 30 minutes

From Denver, head west on I-70. Take exit 232 onto Hwy 40. Follow Hwy 40 for approximately 30 miles through Empire, over Berthoud Pass past Winter Park and Fraser. About 2 miles past Fraser, take a right on County Road 83. Take the right hand fork and follow it 3 miles to the Ranch.

From Denver International Airport


Approximate driving time: 1 hour 45 minutes

Take Pena Blvd onto I-70 W. Take exit 232 onto Hwy 40. Follow Hwy 40 for approximately 30 miles through Empire, over Berthoud Pass past Winter Park and Fraser. About 2 miles past Fraser, take a right on County Road 83. Take the right hand fork and follow it 3 miles to the Ranch.

From Boulder


Approximate driving time: 2 hours

Follow CO-93 S to US-6 W/Clear Creek/Clear Creek Canyon Rd in Golden. Turn right onto US-6 W/Clear Creek/Clear Creek Canyon Rd. Turn left onto US-6 W and merge onto I-70 W. Take exit 232 onto Hwy 40. Follow Hwy 40 for approximately 30 miles through Empire, over Berthoud Pass past Winter Park and Fraser. About 2 miles past Fraser, take a right on County Road 83. Take the right hand fork and follow it 3 miles to the Ranch.

From Colorado Springs


Approximate driving time: 2 hours and 51 minutes

Merge onto I-25 N. Take exit 209A-209B toward 209A/209B/6th Ave E. Keep right and continue on exit 209B for 6th Ave W. Stay on 6th Ave W and then merge onto I-70 W to Clear Creek County. Take exit 232 onto Hwy 40. Follow Hwy 40 for approximately 30 miles through Empire, over Berthoud Pass past Winter Park and Fraser. About 2 miles past Fraser, take a right on County Road 83. Take the right hand fork and follow it 3 miles to the Ranch.

Transportation Tips

Home James


Home James is a Winter Park-based shuttle service available to transport guests from Denver or DIA to Devil’s Thumb Ranch. Advance reservations are required through online or by phone at 970-726-5060.

Amtrak Station


With advance notice, the Ranch is happy to pick guests up from the Amtrak Station in Winter Park or Fraser. The California Zephyr runs daily from Union Station, in downtown Denver, to Tabernash, Colorado. You will climb through the heart of the Rockies and it has been called the most beautiful train trips in all of North America. See Amtrack.com for tickets.

Off-site transportation


If you plan to explore the natural beauty surrounding the ranch and throughout the valley, we recommend renting a car. This can be done through Home James or your preferred car rental company.

Transportation Between Winter Park and Devil’s Thumb Ranch

The shuttle is a service we provide for all guests. It runs on weekends and holidays and is available for mid-week reservations. Please contact the front desk to arrange.

9:00 am – departs Devil’s Thumb Ranch (DTR) to Winter Park Resort (WPR) stopping at Trailhead Inn (THI) & Vasquez Creek Inn (VCI)
9:30 am – departs WPR returning to DTR
12:30 pm – departs DTR to WPR stopping at THI & VCI
1:00 pm – departs WPR returning to DTR
3:30 pm – departs DTR to WPR stopping at THI & VCI
4:00 pm – departs WPR returning to DTR
6:30 pm – departs DTR to THI & VCI
7:00 pm – departs VCI returning to DTR
8:30 pm – departs DTR to THI & VCI
9:00 pm – departs VCI returning to DTR

Smoking Policy

Devil’s Thumb Ranch and all its facilities are non-smoking.

Pets

Select cabins are pet friendly. A a flat pet fee of $100 per stay applies. (Limit 2 animals.)

Cancellation policy

Your deposit, less $100 processing fee, will be returned if you cancel within 14 days of your scheduled arrival.
