Ranch Careers: Jane’s Story

Jane Barnard was on a cross-country road trip from Massachusetts to Seattle several years ago when she made a stop in Grand County to visit relatives. Researching the area on the internet, she stumbled across Devil’s Thumb Ranch, saw the resort was looking to hire a barista, and never made it any further west.

A people person, Jane loved interacting with guests at the resort’s Hallowed Grounds, getting to know the locals at Winter Park’s Caffé Giocondo, and building relationships with colleagues from all departments at The Ranch – team members who encouraged her to bring her “can-do” attitude and winning personality to other departments as well.

In addition to making a mean Caramel Macchiato, Jane enjoyed her time as a hostess at Volario’s and as a summer gardener for the grounds department. But it was an opening in Human Resources that really piqued her interest. Jane secured the position as the department’s coordinator, quickly learned the HR ropes, and advanced to Administrator and ultimately to her current position as Human Resources Manager.

Today, Jane thrives on helping every employee at Devil’s Thumb Ranch navigate his or her journey of growth and success, like so many people at The Ranch have done for her.

The greatest aspect of working at Devil’s Thumb Ranch is the huge support network, which goes beyond the people in your own department. Everyone here is truly genuine, incredibly supportive, and from different backgrounds – all of which adds to the richness of the culture here. – Jane Barnard
