Wild West Whiskey

Colorado Mountain Whiskey

A good ol’ fashioned American tradition.

The tradition of whiskey in our country is one that dates back nearly as long as the foundation of the modern United States. It’s a history rife with experimentation, drama, and ingenuity. Today we find ourselves seemingly on the cusp of a new frontier in that grand tradition as distillers all around the country are crafting new and exciting brands and blends of this elegant, copper-colored liquid. The evolution of this rugged and rough, yet refined and subtle spirit is something to be celebrated.

In an effort to more fully explore and contribute to this rich history, we’ve had the honor to partner with Colorado-based, family-owned, and sustainability-minded The Family Jones Distillery. Through this collaboration, we’ve cultivated our own specific blend which plays upon their original American Whiskey. Troy Karnes, a representative for The Family Jones, had this to say about our Mountain Whiskey:

“The Devil’s Thumb team tasted through a bunch of whiskeys and selected a blend of a 9-year-old whiskey and a 4-year-old whiskey that boasts tasting notes of toasted grains, butterscotch, and caramel. At 90 proof, it makes an excellent base for an Old Fashioned, and it tastes damn good on its own as well.”

While our DTR Mountain Whiskey is only available to taste when you’re ‘round these parts, you can craft up a Colorado-themed drink and mouthwatering pairing until we can welcome you back to the Ranch.

Palisade Peach Old Fashioned:

Make a purée by cutting Palisade Peaches in half and placing them cut side down on the grill. This will bring out the sugars and add a light smoky flavor to complement the whiskey. When you have a nice char, remove them and put them into the blender. Blend until smooth and add sugar to taste.

  • Add 1 large ice cube to a rocks glass
  • 2oz DTR Whiskey
  • 1oz Palisade Peach Purée
  • 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
  • Stir to partially dilute

Food Pairing: Smoked Pork Tomahawk with Butternut Squash and Palisade Peach Chutney
