"When I signed up for the Ski, Sip and Spa event at Devil's Thumb Ranch I had expectations of an enjoyable day at this beautiful ranch and the opportunity to learn cross country skiing in this setting. My expectations were surpassed time and time again during this magical day! The lectures were extremely insightful and inspiring on many levels. It was nice to be surrounded by all these remarkable women who all had such a passion for life and adventure."
Whether you are a serious nordic skier and racer, an old-school tourist, or anywhere in between, the Stagecoach Classic is a unique chance to experience a trek from Devil's Thumb Ranch, through the old Idlewild Ski Area, to Hideaway Park in Winter Park. In the past, the Idlewild trail system connected to Devil's Thumb Ranch, connecting Tabernash, Fraser, and Winter Park, and is still remembered by skiers as the best nordic area in Colorado. This is a rare chance to ski such a beautiful, "off the map" course. Plus, it's an exclusive opportunity as this will be the only time this winter that this trail system will be connected and groomed for skier access!
Stagecoach Classic Toko Wax Recommendation
Devil’s Thumb Ranch, Tabernash, CO Saturday, January 21
9 A.M. 30K Classic, 10:30 A.M. 15K Classic Mass starts, Point to point
Forecast/Conditions: Forecast calls for a slight chance of snow Friday night with an overnight low of 12 warming to the mid-teens for
the 9 A.M. start under mostly cloudy conditions. The actual air temperature at Devil’s Thumb tends to be ~10 degrees colder than forecasted.
Glidewax: Apply LF Blue, scrape and brush, then apply HF Blue scrape and brush. Finish by crayoning JetStream Blue, iron hot (320F) with a layer of fiberlene under the iron, traveling slowly (60 seconds) tip to tail. Brush with a dedicated nylon polishing brush and polish with a thermopad.
Gripwax: Roughen base with 150 grit sandpaper, iron in Nordic Base Wax Green, cork smooth, let cool. Then apply 4-5 layers of Nordic GripWax Blue, corking between layers. Late wave starters will want to use GripWax Red covered with a layer of GripWax Blue.
Structure: A fine linear structure covered by one pass with the Blue Structurite tool (before JetStream application) will best suit these conditions.
